Tracy Burns, the executive director of thenursing decision on bringing changes in the hospital deeply impacted the culture due to the following reasons:
• The nurses would take over the responsibility for discharging the patient instead of the physicians which were their responsibility.
• Conducting workshops and seminars for training the matrons and nurses on NLD (Nurse-Led-Discharge)
• Increasing the tasks and responsibilities of the nurses and matrons.
• The director of information management and technology has also been tasked with providing the data for the patient such as its length of stay, admission and etc.
2. Did the traditional roles change in thehospital?
The traditional roles for the discharging of the patient were the primary responsibilities of the physicians and MDs however, with the organizational change, the traditional role has been modified as the nurses have been empowered on discharging the patient as well.
3. How did the professional roles with respect to care and authority change and why?
With respect to care and authority changes on the professional roles, the nurse’s tasks were increased as they are now required to assess the patients regularly and the one who is feeling well is discharged since the tasks of nurses involved looking after the patient and helping the physicians. The responsibility of discharging of thepatient was primarily done by the physicians but now the responsibility is given to nurses. The reason was to reduce the working list of thepatient in E&A ward and also reducing the length of stay.
