In the year 2012, after several unsuccessful attempts at setting up a cloud computing option for its entire Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite, SAP announced two major acquisitions: SuccessFactors, an important SaaS supplier for Human Resources applications and Ariba, a major SaaS supplier of supply chain software.
The second was for $4.3 billion, with a 20 percent premium. The business press and bloggers highly praised this in SAP's policy to cloud computing as a strategic shift. In May 2012, CEO of SuccessFactors, Lars Dalgaard, was selected head of the Cloud Business of SAP, in charge of the entire SAP SaaS strategy.
