The Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies possesses an oil platform, the Brent located in the North Sea.It is facility of storing oil and tanker loading buoy. It came to the end of its worthy life and was eradicated from the commission by September 1991.

After an exhaustive study of the environmental impact of various disposal alternatives, Shell concluded the safe strategy was to dispose off in deep water. It was the Germany’s arm of peace which in turn led to the outraged public protest for this activity, affecting public opinion to the stage where Shell changed its disposal plans and selected for on land dismantling.
