Homelessness in Harvard Square: Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration in Action Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case study is set in Harvard Square in 2012-2013, and explores how a different group of local stakeholders (e.g. the Cambridge Police Department, city agencies, churches, nonprofit service providers, Harvard Square companies) gathers to comprehend and respond to the inflow of "voyagers." These youthful people that are homeless travel from city to city in a wandering manner, and Harvard Square has got popularity on the voyager’s circuit.

The travelers' aggressive behavior and drug use challenge local stakeholders who have developed fairly powerful strategies to support the homeless population on Cambridge roads. Better kinds of collective action and collaboration are needed to deal with this new set of challenges. This case study goes on describing the stakeholders affected, the distinct interests at stake, and the wider picture in which cooperation and joint action must happen.
