Philanthropy Industry Note Part (D): Corporate Philanthropy Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Philanthropy Industry Note Part (D): Corporate Philanthropy Case Solution

This chain of contextual essays provides a summary of the history and standing of philanthropic giving in the United States. These notes look generally at total philanthropic styles (share of national income given to philanthropy, leading recipients of charitable contributions; sources of contributions) along with the giving patterns of the various sectors of the market: people, corporations and foundations through drawing on reports published by Commission on Civic Renewal and Philanthropy as well as federal tax based data.

Each note begins with particular conclusions (e.g. nearly half of all philanthropy goes to religious associations; the strongest predictor of giving is level of net worth; foundation donation has relations to operation of the stock market; corporate philanthropy is fast becoming a part of the company’s tactics to maintain a competitive position) before elaborating on the conclusions and supplying an extensive bibliography. Although not providing an explicit summary of the entire private sector, the notes remark on the development of the sector and its altering reliance on private and public support.
