The case investigates the steps taken by private equity investors to restructure a European industrial gas concern complicated by partial family ownership, and held by Hoechts. In Messer Griesheim, a European industrial gas concern, Goldman Sachs and Allianz Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in 2001.
