This note goes through the impact in the marketplace of the 75% devaluation since July 1997 of the Indonesian rupiah and the Indonesian pharmaceutical marketplace in 1997. Leading foreign and domestic players are described.
This note emphasizes on the issue of whether the balance of power between local and global players has changed and how the Indonesian pharmaceutical marketplace might change as an effect of the disaster. In the pharmaceutical industry, the Asian marketplace--including India, and Southeast Asia, Japan, China, Korea --constituted one third of worldwide revenues and had experienced above average growth.
