Inaction Speaks Louder Than Words: The Problems Of Passivity Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Much has been written about bystander apathy, which happens when an outsider (i.e., the bystander) is hesitant to behave during a situation that definitely calls for action. Nonetheless, what about when the individual called to act is an insider? This post maintains that insiders (i.e., players, or organizational celebrities) exhibit similar passive behaviors but not because they are apathetic.

Players that are internal to the organization and are often accountable for the results are expected to act. Rather, when confounded by obfuscated communications ambiguous scenarios, time pressure, and confusion, players frequently stand by befuddled. This post surveys two instances that are such. Second is true of the Vancouver Olympic Committee along with the departure of a young athlete on their newly built luge run. Those responsible neglected to act when the risk of the track's extreme speeds were well known.
