Cities have an unprecedented opportunity to change the way they deliver and use energy. New eco-cities such as Dongtan in China are on the way, as existing cities are turning to technology to the past - from the Adobe architecture passive solar heating. When completed conservation, more efficient technologies and the new decentralized, small energy services, these efforts can help cities confidently navigate the challenges they face while reducing climate change. The authors show that everything is done correctly, the conversion of energy in cities can be the doorway to the security and viability of city life.
