The case tries to explore the Causes of the Sinking of R.M.S Titanic on 15th April 1912. Which resulted in the loss of 1500 lives on board, the biggest and most technologically advanced ship of that time. Major Factor Involved

The major factors involved that, could have contributed towards the sinking of T.M.S titanic are illustrated below:

  • The first Major factor involved, could be extreme climatic conditions of the North Atlantic Ocean at that time. Which caused more iceberg to be formed,due to the intersection of Gulf Stream and Labrador Current.Where the Gulf Stream carried warmer than usual water, causing a concentration of icebergs in the area of Titanic tragedy.
  • The High speed of the Ship could be another major factor, which contributed to the sinking of the ship. The T.M.S Titanic was going at 22 nautical miles, in an attempt to shorten the Olympic time, when it struck the Iceberg.
  • The fact that, T.M.S Titanic received multiple warnings regarding icebergs in the area of the North Atlantic Ocean. But the warning were not processed and transferred to the appropriate authorities by the radio operator.
  • It was evaluated that, the material used to manufacture the rivets of the Titanic was made from substandard iron, with excess sulfur. Which caused the rivets top head to tear from the sheer force of the collision with the iceberg.That allowed the water to come in and fill the six water tight compartments of the ship. Therefore, it can be evaluated that, the failure of the Rivet join and ripping of the hull plates was a major factor, which contributed to the sinking of the ship.
  • The Titanic had sixteen watertight compartment in its hull, as these water tight compartments were water tight only horizontally and its wall were only a few feet above water line.As the six compartments, which were affected by the iceberg filled with water. Hence, the sheer weight of the water in these six compartments lead the ships front end to sink into the water and as the hull went under the water line, the adjacent six compartments to the already filled compartments started to fill with water, due to the short height of its compartment walls. Therefore, this major factor significantly contributed, towards the sinking of the T.M.S Titanic in the North Atlantic Ocean.................
