Ruma’s Fruit and Gift Basket World: Will Dad Ever Talk to Me? Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Andrea Ruma has worked for 3 years at Ruma's Fruit and Gift Basket (Ruma's), a 112- year- old family company in Massachusetts. Andrea is thinking whether she should leave her job to get back to her studies or she should stay in the business. The problem for Andrea is that her dad, Jim Ruma, doesn't reveal any information on succession planning, finances, estate planning, or the organization method, nor give her with any feedback about how she is doing her job. Although Jim is 72 years of age, he is a dynamic and opportunistic businessman. In the last two decades, he left the wholesale fruit business and has entered and started  five new businesses without any preparation. Even though the organization is profitable and provides good revenue to four member family, however Andrea has doubts as to whether she should invest in possibility of taking over the business.
