Pushing the Envelope: Engine Development and Procurement for the F-15 Fighter Jet (B) Case Solution

This case talks about the occasions that took place during the period of carrying out of the option available to Pratt and Whitney's F100 jet engine. Following an initial development plan, the Air Force declared a schism order from General Electric for the F16 and 40 engines from Pratt and Whitney for the f15 for 120 engines.

While this order would simply satisfy with the needs for the year 1985, Secretary of the Air Force Verne Orr had determined to hold off on any long term obligations and to find field experience and contractor performance during the first year. A couple of days after, General Electric's F110 engine was chosen by the Navy in the F14 as a replacement for Pratt's TF30. See also the A (UV3883) and C (UV3886) cases.
