Knight the King: The Founding of Nike Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

It had taken Phil Knight sixteen to build Nike into the number one athletic-shoe company in the nation. When Knight had first conceived of the business for an MBA course job, Adidas had more than 80% market share, but Knight's marketing approach had revolutionized the industry, his firm had developed several groundbreaking shoe technologies, and Nike's brand had become one of the most identifiable in the world.

In 1980, exactly the same year that Nike had knocked Adidas off its throne, Nike had gone public and Knight, its founder- CEO, still owned close to half of the firm. He had directed the firm to a big public company as it evolved from a scrappy start-up through remarkable changes. Nonetheless, now, barely half a decade after, Knight had received the news that Nike Reebok, an upstart competition had dethroned itself. Knight devastated for hours, faced the wall, and sat there, sick and poor and closeted himself in his office.
