The single use plastic if not degraded would end up accumulating in bodies of aquatic animals and blocking their digestive tracts. Aquatic animals misinterpreted plastic as food, some of engulf them as food and feel no urge to eat afterwards since its non biodegradable, while other animals get entrapped in plastic and die. Single use plastic alone eventually causes deaths of countless of not only aquatic animals but affects birds who feed on aquatic animals as well. Some reports suggests that, today about 700 species worldwide are endangered due to bio-related issues. (PARKER, 2019) This does not pose problem by shortage of edible aquatic animals but also affects the entire food chain which have impact on the balance of entire aquatic ecosystem.

Ethical implication:

Single use plastic is not only used for disposable utensils, but it is used to protect the food from contamination, and spoilage. It keeps the food fresh for longer period which can increase food shelf life (british plastic federation, 2019)and avoids food wastage which can adversely affect the global hunger. Increased shelf life of food only prevents growth of microbe in food and avoids the chances of various infections. Single use plastics also protects nutraceutical and living saving medical equipment’s too in the form of primary packaging. Medicinal vaccines annually save lives of countless people globally.

Single used plastic’s low cost has made the food preservation highly affordable, approachable to malnourished population. In various poor countries life-saving initiatives are possible due to affordability and preservative nature of single use plastic. Single use plastics have saved a lot of expense that might occur due to early transport and recycling. It makes the food accessible to those areas of world which have harsh environments since plastics can protect the product from climatic change too.

Singe use packing not only protect the foods and medicine from environmental factors like moisture and excessive oxygen, but it also saves against any hazard and injury that are possible from other packaging for example glass-based packaging can break and metal-based-packaging can deform to form sharp edges, which is not children friendly at all. In this way single is very user-friendly and has made peoples life easier and less expensive.

Conclusion:

Single used plastic can be a useful item in field of medicine and food industry, but its use should be minimized to all possible extent because it can cause serious hazards to both our environment and our wellbeing. Proper regulations should be made to limit if not ban the usage of these polymers and people should be educated about the harmful effects of plastics through media because it is often seen people of countries with low literacy rate reuse the single use plastic items like plastic bottles and utensils. Some precautions should be written regarding it single time usage and proper dumbing of plastic based items should be taken more seriously. Specially dumbing of plastic based products in water should be banned. The products for which plastic should be allowed, should be reconsidered and any areas where plastic usage is avoidable should instantly be determined and should be banned. For example, usage of plastic shopping bags can be banned since they can cause more harm than benefit, whereas usage of medicine and whole meal-based food should be limited but allowed................................
