Ron Burkle is an activist investor and shareholder of Barnes & Noble, Inc (BN). In September 2010, through his company, Yucaipa Companies (Yucaipa), Burkle filed "Definitive Proxy", to challenge BN slate of board-of-director nominees at the upcoming meeting of the shareholders. Proxies were made in response to a decision against Yucaipa a Delaware court office in a lawsuit that challenged Barnes & Noble poison pill provision that prevented outsiders become the majority shareholders. Burkle does not agree with the founder of BN, the chairman and majority owner of the company, Leonard Riggio, on BN's long-term strategy. While Burkle company would cede ground to Amazon digital reader on the market and instead focus on the physical stores BN, in Riggio is believed that the Nook eReader should be a central element of the strategy of the company.
