Rohner Textil AG A Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This number of cases (see also B [UVA-E-0108], C [UVA-E-0109], D [UVA-E-0110] and E [UVA-E-0147] cases) takes students on five project manufacturing solutions facing Albin Kalin, CEO Rohner Textil AG, a manufacturer of textile products in the north-eastern Switzerland. Faced with pressure from the public to use quieter machines and challenged more stringent environmental regulations, Kalin devoted himself to improving the environmental profile of the plant. He took a number of design rules based on the imperatives of the proposed William McDonough McDonough on the concept of "equal waste food." Given these strict environmental parameters Kalin tries to develop and manufacture materials for composting DesignTex, division of the American company Steelcase.
