In a world of true meritocracy, every individual-regardless of sex-would be fairly rewarded for their contribution. The issue, according to the author, is that such meritocracy will not exist in many organizations. She claims the processes and 'frames of reference' in most businesses devalue women's contributions and reinforce the privileges of dominant groups.

She supplies eight strategies for becoming nearer to a real meritocracy, including 'training anyone in an evaluative position to comprehend implied bias' and 'examining systems and procedures for accidental prejudice'.
