Mario Laborin and the Turnaround of Mexicos Nacional Financiera (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Mexico experienced a major political transition in 2000, when Vicente Fox was elected president. Changes in the air across the country, and especially in the state structures. One such subject was NAFINSA, National Development Bank, which had a stellar history in the first half of the twentieth century, the Mexican Stock Exchange and the financing of public projects. His more recent history has been less impressive, with accusations of political influence, inefficiency, and the main problems in the lead. Fox had special plans for NAFINSA, but wanting it to be an outstanding player in the promotion of small and medium businesses. He hired Mario Laborin, previously responsible for the successful management of a private bank in Mexico to turn around and NAFINSA promote this new mandate policy.
