KR Audio Electronics Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case illustrates the financial, strategic and management challenges for the manufacturer of audio amplifiers and vacuum tubes in the Czech Republic. Eunice Kron became the CEO of KR Audio Electronics, when her husband, the company's founder, died unexpectedly. From 1996 until her husband's death in 2002, Eunice Kron was only marginally involved in the business, writing letters, translation of documents and answering telephone calls. When her husband died, Eunice decided to run the company himself, despite the skepticism of customers and suppliers. Eunice asked for payment and orders himself, and went to the electronics trade show to learn about the industry and potential buyers of the court. Engineering Group KR continued their technological innovation and development of new products. In 2002 and 2003, the SARS epidemic, U.S. involvement in the war in Iraq, and the devaluation of the dollar in the foreign exchange market has had a negative impact on the company's ability to sell their products. As losses mounted, Eunice was not sure how or if it is to continue to keep the business afloat. In 2004, Eunice faced with a decision on whether to hire a young person to help market products for the upcoming CD audio show in Las Vegas. Ultimately, she must decide how to act in the long term.
