Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

IPH helped the people to locate secure, affordable housing and assisted people and families by meeting their immediate needs and it had served the displaced community since 1984, and provided continuing support through long term case management services. The recent publication of the 2010 annual report provided a chance to reflect on their achievements, particularly given the fiscal challenges caused by the 2008 downturn to Janine and her staff. Janine pondered several challenges confronting her staff in the forthcoming year. Almost all systems at IPH were working at a certain capacity. The Emergency Shelter that supplied nightly recourse for girls as well as 30 single men was not empty. IPH needed to develop and grow corporate, organizational, and individual sources of support to lessen reliance on government funds; increase in kind contributions; and efficiently use volunteers to cut back operating costs. Several chances were contemplated by Janine. Should they pursue added capability in long-term home as a means for creating sustainable financing? Did it make sense to expand operations or services in county or a different neighborhood? The problem was to decide which option is the best way to finance the present operations and to pursue. Janine believed it was likely time IPH participated in some proper strategic planning.
