Integrated Project Delivery at Autodesk Inc. (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Autodesk describes the interaction in the Integrated Project Delivery-new model of risk management, inter-firm teamwork, and multi-purpose (aesthetic, cost and sustainability) optimization of construction projects.

In 2008, Autodesk, Inc the largest software company in the world, has decided to take part in complex projects (IPD) for the design and construction of a new architecture, engineering and construction solutions (whiskers) Group headquarters near Boston. By IPD, project architect, the builder and the client (Autodesk) has entered into a contractual agreement to share the risks and benefits of the project. The project, however, Autodesk was unhappy with design progress, and asked the project team to provide a three-story atrium in the design of the headquarters. Logistically, it was not the best time to make a change, as the team has already made significant progress design. The team is also working under a tight budget and delivery time. However, the aesthetics, it would seem, is significantly improved by changing the design. Project architect and builder was to decide whether the placement of the atrium in the current schedule and sequence of work was an acceptable risk.
