The problems with traditional approaches to strategic planning have long recognized: they are trying to make science "of planning, with subsequent loss of creativity, there is too much emphasis on data, the desire for administrative efficiency through matter, and the domination of one method, used incorrect. However, strategists today continue to struggle to offer a clear alternative to traditional processes. Design offers a different approach and offers processes that are more participatory, based on dialogue, question-and-what-calendar-driven, and the conflict is in place to prevent conflicts, all aimed at the invention and learning, not control . The author describes the elements of the project approach and ten steps organizations can take if they want to take design seriously.
