Hindustan Lever (A): Leaping Millenium Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This three-part series of cases points to the new business model, developed by Hindustan Lever (HLL) to tap the business potentials and sustainability hidden in rural India. It focuses on a win-win partnership with the village, the women self-help groups (SHGs). HLL helps GSP access to micro-credit, which is usually limited. GSP, in turn HLL buy products and sell them in their villages in a decentralized manner, thereby creating various opportunities for rural communities, such as education and income opportunities for women, and a general improvement of living conditions for their families. The case describes the cornerstones and the major decisions taken at the initial stage of the project. It details the value chain and the expected results for stakeholders. This is the first series ends, when the system was up and running, but discloses none of the actual results. "Hide
