HCL Beanstalk: All-in-One Desktop Re-Launch Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

HCL Infosystems Limited is a well-known hardware business and a leading player in the Indian desktop market. Due to changes in consumer behavior, the desktop market is shrinking and demand is changing towards notebooks, where HCL has a miniscule existence. At precisely the same time, the desktop computer market is seeing the development of a new type of apparatus called all in ones (AIOs). HCL requests an important presence in AIOs to keep its location in the Indian PC market. The business sought to gain a niche market for its superior range and was an early entrant in the Indian AIO market in 2007, but did not succeed and removed its product line.

The classification has, in the mass market segment, grown in the past four years and HCL desires a successful re-launch of the HCL Beanstalk AIO in the surface of intense competition from multinational rivals who have a head start. HCL's management thinks the Beanstalk must get eight per cent of the retail section of the Indian AIO marketplace as a way to be able to gain the same share in the business to business market, which is slower to adopt new technologies.
