Hanging Up the (Old) Phone: IP Communications in 2004 Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Fundamental changes in the voice, that voice over internet protocol (VoIP) portends influenced by the number of electoral districts. Starting companies, as well as large, established telephone companies and cable TV providers offered VoIP calling plans that could replace many of the telephone services sold by the same or other established providers. These providers can also benefit from VoIP, using it to expand into new markets. Other companies that previously had nothing to do with the phone can be a VoIP phone service providers, for example, the necessary software codes for VoIP-calls were written in the Microsoft XP operating system through its Instant Messaging. However, the Internet protocol communications represent a serious challenge to the complex web of federal and state regulations that govern telephony. Since VoIP telephony was not tied to a physical telephone networks in specific geographic regions, it raised the question of whether federal or state regulators will have jurisdiction over VoIP and the jurisdiction will be exercised.
