June 9, 1986, the Company acquired General Electric Radio Corporation of America (RCA) for $ 6.8 billion, setting a record for the largest non-oil merger in U.S. history. GE wanted to RCA for defense companies and municipal solid sales of consumer goods, areas where GE was faltering. But the "jewel in the crown" was RCA-owned broadcaster, National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
