French Fries Case Study Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

French Fries Case Study Case Solution

Introduction

After the Japanese news source challenged McDonalds about their variation in french fries and later determined by conducting analysis that an average of twelve chips and thirteen grams were the only difference between the large and medium fries, which was not worth the price upgrade. However, this case introduces the french fries data collected by Maggie Daly to assess and analyze the variation in lengths of the french fries in two different locations of McDonalds in Cincinnati, Ohio. She sampled 868 french fries, and the lengths measurement were recorded in centimeters rating each fry on six key cosmetic factors.

Analysis

French Fries lengths by Package Size

The graph above shows the point of the kurtosis plotted along the x and y-axis.

By analyzingthe data provided and calculating the values of the kurtosis of french fries by their order size, their impacts on the large, medium and small sizes are given below.

Large

After analyzing the data provided in the case, the kurtosis and standard deviation was calculated and hence, could determine that the positive kurtosis depicts that the data provided have a heavy tail distribution, which would result in high probability that the next value acquired would be greater as the value of the kurtosis is greater than zero, and that the distribution would take its extreme values both low and high more frequently.

Medium

The kurtosis and standard deviation for medium order size were calculated, whereas the kurtosis calculated is lower than large order size. Hence, it could be determined that the positive kurtosis depicts that the data provided have a heavy tail distribution, which would result in high probability that the next value acquired would be greater, but less than the large order size, as the value of the kurtosis is greater than zero and the distribution would take its extreme values both low and high more frequently, but not more frequently than larger size values.

Small

The kurtosis and standard deviation for small order size were calculated, whereas the kurtosis calculated is lower than large order size, but greater than medium order size. Hence, it could be determined that the positive kurtosis depicts that the data provided have a heavy tail distribution, which would result in high probability that the next value acquired would be greater, but less than the large order size and more than the medium order size, as the value of the kurtosis is greater than zero and the distribution would take its extreme values both low and high more frequently, but not more frequently than vast and medium order size values.

French Fries lengths by Location

By analyzing the data provided and calculating the values of the kurtosis of french fries by their location, their impacts of location one and two are given below.

Location No 1

After analyzing the data provided in the case, the kurtosis and standard deviation was calculated with respect to their locations and hence, could determine that the positive kurtosis depicts that the data provided have a heavy tail distribution, which results in high probability that the next value acquired would be greater as the value of the kurtosis is greater than zero and the distribution would take its extreme values both low and high more frequently.
