Fashion Faux Pas: Gucci & LVMH Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton (France) acquired a large interest in the Gucci Group (Italy and the Netherlands) in January 1990. Gucci accused LVMH of "creeping acquisition" and refused to cooperate in LVMH, to gain representation in the management of Gucci. Basic parts of the alleged attempt to absorb and defense mechanisms used by Gucci. Defence employed included the use of poison pills and white knight. Ultimately, Gucci found a white knight, Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR) in France, to save it from unwanted advances to LVMH. basic question which case addresses whether the measures taken by the leadership of Gucci in protecting their independence, were actually in the best interest of the shareholders .
