Bumper Acquisition (A2): Confidential Information for Medallion Capital Inc. Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Located in Mundelein, IL, Thermo-impact, Inc is a rapidly growing, private company that produces car bumpers. In 1995, a number of major automotive supplier companies, and private equity investment firms offer to buy the thermal effects. The cases in this series focus on the proposal made by the private company equity investment in New York Medallion Capital, and subsequent negotiations between the main medallion owners and Thermo-Task Force. This case provides background information on the thermal effects and a medallion, and a description of the thermal effects as attractive acquisition. Concludes with the terms of the offer sent medallion owners Thermo-Impact. The proposal is the starting point for students to negotiate a possible deal, with some students from Thermo-impact and issues of the medallion. Contains confidential information for Medallion colleagues. Teaching Purpose: Designed to provide students with real-world experience of negotiating for the sale of a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial firm. Allows students to negotiate deals in small groups outside of class. Can be taught over a span of two or three periods of class. Allows students to formulate responses to unexpected events that occur during Thermo-Impact/Medallion negotiations and convey a sense of a long and often difficult negotiations foreclosure. "Hide
