Paryavaran Mitra, an initiative started in 2010 with the objective to reach around 200,000 schools, was a collaboration of three primary and around 160 secondary partners. Paryavaran Mitra (Friends of the Environment) was a public private partnership initiative. It highlights the strategic, institutional, and reputational implications for corporate social responsibility in the context of an emerging country.

By 2013, the corporate sponsor of the project, the senior manager of corporate responsibility for the firm, had to decide about the future plans of the initiative that could generate the healthy results. Vidhi Chaudhri is affiliated with Erasmus University – Rotterdam and Asha Kaul is affiliated with Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
