An Entrepreneur in the Educational World (B):Principal Matthew Landahl Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Supplement case for UV5830.The principal's B instance illustrate Landahl's opening year at Greer-he seemed to be running from one trouble spot to another, and numerous issues only kept resurfacing. Student violations against each other and teachers had decreased, but disorderly and tumultuous events had improved. Teachers who differed with the approach of Landahl undermined his administration. Greer students had remained unsuccessful to meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards for 2007- 08; the odds of realizing some of his goals and strategy targets now appeared distant. Yet he was determined that he had turned the scenario around and that the upcoming school year was going to be better.

He also had something else to think about. The superintendent needed Landahl to pick from the state-mandated choices. He could decide to continue offering supplemental educational services or current parents with the choice of sending their children to another school. This case was educated in an executive education school reversion program for principals and district administrators. It could also be used in a first-year MBA leadership and organizational behavior course as an introduction on creating value through people-direction and design.
