AEP: Carbon Capture and Storage Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

By October 2010, American Electric Power, the largest coal mining, electric utilities in the United States, has been operating trapping and absorption of the pilot plant for one year. Using your own, Alstom chilled ammonia technology, AEP has been capturing and isolating 90% of carbon dioxide in a small waste stream at its Mountaineer plant in West Virginia. As part of its overall strategy to reduce carbon emissions, AEP was the beginning of construction of $ 680 million demonstration plan, partially funded by money DOE. Mike Morris, chairman of the AEP, was disappointed, though, that Congress has not taken off his cap and trade bill, and was worried how he would restore the AEP share in this huge investment.
