With a Little Help from “Nuestros Amigos”: Hispanics and Kidney Transplants Case Study Analysis

Non-Hispanics:

Non-Hispanic, especially those who are White Americans receive high health benefits from the government as they prioritized at the top of the list to be provided with all the health, educational as well as employment facilities by not only the public authorities, but also by the government itself. The population rate of Non-Hispanics is 84 percent, which means they have a superiority over the Hispanics in terms of availing basic health facilities. At an average, the Hispanic households usually have 4.0 members per household in comparison to 2.9 non-Hispanics members per household, which clearly indicates that it is Non-Hispanic patients who get more health coverage in comparison to others, resulting in them getting donors more easily than Hispanic patients.

Government:

After having an analyzation of the entire case, it is very much clear that the Government is providing very limited resources to the minorities, be that regarding healthcare or employment, which is leadings towards a devastating increase in the death rate of Hispanic minorities Government should increase Hispanics employees’ income salaries, making them able to bare their healthcare expenses and hospital bills expenses.

Hospitals’ Management:

It we take a look at the names of all the enlisted patients who had been anxiously waiting for their kidney donors till they died and those who are still waiting for numerous years, then it is highly important for the hospital’s management team to be interrogated and questioned about their unequal treatment and negligence towards Hispanic patients. If the management of the hospital takes some corrective measures to solve this issue then it still wouldn’t be very late to make amends for all the troubles that the management caused to the Hispanic patients.

Barriers

Cultural Differences:

There is a presence of a very large cultural difference between Hispanics and White Americans. One of the most common difference or barrier that exists is the language barrier, which creates a huge communication gap between Hispanics and Non-Hispanics. With most of the Hispanics unable to speak good or understandable English, it becomes very difficult to communicate their health issues to the doctors or specialists, which results in them getting misunderstood when they explain their health conditions. It is also the reason behind them choosing an entirely differently method of treatment that they initially had wished for.

Lifestyle:

When we talk about lifestyle then the first thing that comes to our mind is diet or food consumption habits of people. When it comes to Hispanics, they have a very heavy diet on usual basis. Hispanics are fond of junk food and sweets and they do consume many overloaded carbs and sweets, which increases their chances of having diabetes. Diabetes is considered to be a root cause behind all the kidney related health issues.

Income:

The annual income level of Hispanics are much lower than theannual incomelevel of Non-Hispanics. Due to this inequality, Hispanics oftenbecome unable to get kidney transplantation, which is $100,000 and opt for dialysis, which is less costly in comparison to the kidney transplantation, but reduces numbers of years from their life. This has become the most contributing reason behind an increased death rate of Hispanics.

Family Size:

The family size of Hispanics is 4.0 membersper family as compared to 2.9 members per family of the Non-Hispanics, which has also become a massive reason behind a very low income of Hispanics, as they are least prioritized for employment.

Suggested Solutions

Regulating Human Rights in Hospitals:

Regulating the Human Rights in hospitals will increase the chances of minorities getting their due rights as there wouldn’t be any nepotismleft towards Hispanics and Non-Hispanics. By doing so, both Hispanics as well as Non-Hispanics  will be treated equally as “First come first served”. Byimplying this solution, the death rate of minorities will decrease to a significant level.

Determining Quota System on the basis of Number of CKD Cases:

Another solution is to imply a quota system on the basis of number of chronic kidney diseases, which can be implemented by the government. After the implementation of thissystem, Hispanics would be able to get sufficientsalariesas Non-Hispanics, which will result in them opting for better choice of treatment.

Promoting Hispanic Population in Public Organizations:

Promoting and employing Hispanic community in public organizations will further promote the rights of Hispanics in the Public sector, leading in them to be treated equally as the normal American citizens by the government.

Promoting Health Awareness in Hispanic Population:

One of the very simple step that can be taken for the solution of this issue is to spread awareness among the Hispanic people regarding their health issues and the health benefits that they can get. After the spread of this awareness, there could be chances that the Hispanic people would take their health more seriously, making them more cautious about their fast food and sugar intake which will automatically remove the chances of them getting diabetes. Less cases of diabetic patients means less possibilities of an increase in the kidney patients as diabetes is directly linked to causing kidney related diseases.

Building Special public hospitals for CKD:

Government should build special public hospitals for the Hispanic people suffering from Chronic Kidney Diseasewhere they should be treated fairly. If the government takes initiatives for constructing such public hospitals for Hispanics then their mortality rate would decrease to an impressively significant level.

Implementation Plan

The government of the United States of Americashould take an estimation of the number of people suffering from CKD. After the evaluation, there should be an inspection regarding the never-ending waiting list of the Hispanic patients waiting for kidney donors, which has been increasing the mortality rate of Hispanics to a significant level. Government should then start campaigns to promote Hispanic representatives  in each sector who would work for the rights of the Hispanic people to be delivered to them, which means they would be given fair treatment in terms of income level, education, health care facilities and  employment opportunities etc. Hispanic people should also be told about building good relationships with Non-Hispanic, which would increase their chances of getting a willing donor for Kidney. There should be some laws made regardingthe transplantation quota, which will help in minorities having an access to the same healthcare and transplant facilities, resulting in a decreased mortality rate of minorities.

Conclusion

To conclude, it can be said that despite of being a minority in the US population, Hispanics play a  very important role in increasing the profitability of the overall country and they also do pay their taxes regularly just like whites or any Non-Hispanic American. Therefore, the issue of Hispanic community being discriminated against in terms of treatment provision and them getting neglected should be addressed and they should be given their equal rights of better treatment. It is an issue which if left unaddressed would lead to a very bad perception and image of the United States amongst other countries. The preserving of Human Right’s in America would become highly questionable. By taking the aforementioned steps into consideration, the concerned authorities can reduce the Hispanic’s mortality rates due to CKD........................................
