Weetman Pearson and the Mexican Oil Industry (A) Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Weetman Pearson and the Mexican Oil Industry (A) Case Solution

USED in the MBA Evolution of Global Business course, which is a business history course on the development of multinationals.  This case investigates the role of the British entrepreneur, Weetman Pearson, in the evolution of Mexican oil market prior to the year 1914. Shows this entrepreneur's development from a national British builder to harbors, building tunnels, railways, and an international contractor world-wide, including Mexico and the United States.

Pearson got large petroleum concessions from the government due to his strong ties with the Mexican head of state. In 1910, Pearson discovered one of the world's biggest oil wells, and this was used as a basis to assemble an integrated oil company. However, by 1918, when the case ends, Pearson was contemplating whether to sell his investment in the face of growing political risk.
