VF Brands: Global Supply Chain Strategy Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

This case analyzes VF Brands international supply chain strategy. Historically, VF has used a mix of in house manufacturing and conventional arms-length sourcing organizations. At the time of the case, the firm is considering a third strategy to supplier connections that calls for considerably closer collaboration and partnerships.

The aim of this "third way" strategy would be to create a sourcing relationship that joins some of the virtues of vertical integration with the flexibility of sourcing. Such arrangements are discussed in the operations literature and in practice. This case provides students an opportunity to do an indepth investigation of such an arrangement, and develop an understanding of the trade-offs entailed.
