The Impact Of Biometric Technology On Aviation Security And Safety Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Abstract

The given researchoutlines the effect of biometric tactics on thesecurity and safety measures of the aviationindustry. It has been established thatafter the incident of 9/11, the security of the passengers andofthecountry through aviationhas become the prime focus of the government and that of the aviation controllers as well. The research is carried to identify the relationshipbetween thebiometric technology, the security and safetymeasures and performance of the airlines. (Shapiro, 2009)

Under the particular research, 5 airlinesAir Arabia, Fly Dubai, Etihad Airways, Emirates & Qatar Airwaysare gauged to understand the impact of suchtechnological measures on the airline.Apartfrom this, the secondary data along withinterview technique has been used to develop better implementation plan for future success of theaviationindustry. In addition, convenience sampling has been used in order to gauge the random data set easily due to limitation.

Hence through the research it hasbeen found, that the implementation of the biometric tactic by thedifferent airport has increasedthesafety and security level of the passengers and the regions, it hasbeen derived from taking the directapproach of gauging the passenger’s review travelling in the given airlines.

It has been deduced, that the increasednumber of biometric evaluationand the easyand convenient access andservicelevel to thecustomerincreases the customersatisfactionandtake them opt for the givenairlines.

Lastly, it hasbeen recommended, that in order to continually increase the safety and security level of the aviation industry, the airportmanagement and the airlines should make combined efforts  in upgrading thetechnology.Such can be donethrough join collaboration ofboth the parties to invest

in the biometrictechniques,to reduce the hurdles and improvise the safetylevel, thusimproving the overall

Chapter: 1- Introduction

The emerging challenges of today’s world are mostly in terms of aviation security. Aviation security has become a key challenge for the majority of the countries due to globalization, ease in transportation and increase in Air-traffic. According to the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the number of travelers is708 million, in which 2653 fire-arms in hand carry were detected at airport security points across the US. These activities have increased by 16% since 2014.

However, the increase of such activities is the reason why an advanced aviation security system is needed. After the shocking incidents of 9/11, MH370 and in recent times the Brussels attack by the IS,The United States Government has made it an obligation for the authoritiesto put most efficient efforts to improve the airport security.

Many governments around the world suggest Biometric Verification System to counter the act of terrorism by more accurately and precisely working in getting the background and true identity of the travelers.

1.1-            Background:

The term airport security is becoming very popular as many countries are adopting the multi-model security system that scans eyes, fingerprints and faces to make the security firm and intact without any errors. Recently, in theUnited Arab Emirates, the Ministry of interior has announced the launch or Multi-Model biometric screening systems, which encourages the residents of UAE to record them in the Country Bio-Data to enjoy free immediate access through e-gates, while the non-residents will be subjected to Iris Verification(Chesbrough, 2007).......................
