The purpose of this note is to update people already familiar with the third-party logistics service providers (3PLs) on issues facing the industry, and provide a list of available resources in the World Wide Web, associated with 3PLs. We first consider the basic concepts of 3PLs, and the advantages and risks of outsourcing logistics functions in these companies. We then discuss the current challenges facing 3PLs.
