SCHOLTES WATERSERVICES

Introduction

The company Scholtes water services was started by Rijk Scholtes Sr. having two sons and a daughter. The two sons named as Rijk Scholtes Jr. and Ben Scholtes and the daughter was named as Karin Scholtes. The name of the company initially was R.N. Scholtes and was founded by Mr. Rijk Scholtes Sr., in the beginning Mr. Rijk Sr. was working at his family business at the age of 17 and soon he left his family business.

After leaving the family business Mr. Rijk Sr. started working as a truck driver. Working as a truck driver Mr. Rijk Sr. wanted to start his own business but he did not had enough money to do so. By the help of faith Mr. Rijk Sr. got a contract and with the help of his uncle Piet, he was able to fulfill the contract and so started the company named as R.N. Scholtes.

The business started to grow well and soon after the business started to grow Mr. Rijk Sr. left his job of a truck driver. The first business premises was an old stable which was sufficient to store the pipes he needed to work with. After 4 years of hard work in 1986, Mr. Rijk was able to purchase a parcel of land in Poeldijk. At the premises he built a small office and a single story warehouse for storage. In the year 1994, at the age of 16 Rijk Jr. and after 2 year Ben joined the firm. Both the sons after completing their secondary education joined the family business. Both had no experience before joining the family business. Rijk Jr. used to work with the other workers of the firm and Ben’s activities were concentrated in the warehouse.

In the year 1996, a fire burnt down the premises and as a result it saved the company from going bankrupt due to bad economic situations as every thing was insured and Mr. Rijk Sr. received heavy insurance from the insurance company. With the insurance funds he was able to rebuild the company. A year later the industry started to prosper and the company started to grow again. In the year2002, he purchased a larger parcel of land in Bleiswijk and constructed a second office building and a warehouse.
He offered Rijk Jr. and Ben the opportunity to purchase the company. The brother did not have enough funds to purchase the shares of the company. With the help of an accountant Rijk Sr. prepared a purchase agreement and offered his sons the shares of the firm for a very low price to be purchased over a non-specified period of time as they were able.

In order to signal to the external stakeholders that the company had actually transferred to the next generation, Rijk Jr. proposed to change the name to Scholtes Water services. Between the father and sons it was mutually agreed that Ben would oversee the Bleiswijk office, where he would focus on the physical operations. In turn, Rijk Jr. made a career shift to the office activities, where he was responsible for maintaining business contacts. This made him the representative of the company.

Over the year s the company’s strategy had focused increasingly on wholesale trading and the delivery of plastic pipes. This business was extremely profitable and the company continued to grow. The opportunity for growth motivated Rijk Jr. to explore new business opportunities and regularly propose innovative ideas to his brother. He had an ambitious vision for the company and could not wait to execute his plans...................................
