Polio Eradication-Within Our Reach Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In 2009, there was a significant failure in the global polio eradication effort: polio outbreak in Nigeria spread to neighboring countries, previously polio-free countries were re-infected states in India and Pakistan suffered a major polio outbreak in eight years. By the end of the year the number of children in the world is paralyzed by polio had regressed at the 1999 level. These failures caused a debate about the appropriate strategy for global polio eradication. In fact, some experts believe that the recent failures were not caused by poor management, but were a result of epidemiological characteristics and conditions that may eradicate polio unreachable. These experts argue that global health efforts should be directed at the control or eradication of polio, not to eradicate the disease.
