The aim of this note would be to define what exactly is meant by mergers and acquisitions and to understand why they occur.
The impact of these deals on stockholders of the acquiring and acquired businesses is investigated and the reasons behind why some mergers succeed and others fail are analyzed. Finally, in order to determine the value of a business, some valuation frameworks are provided.
