Nipissing University Varsity Hockey – If We Build It Will They Come Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

In the summer of 2008, Nipissing University announced its intention to launch men's university hockey team. Since that time, the excitement is growing around the halls of Nipissing University and the local community North Bay, Ontario. It was a long and sometimes difficult path to bring this team to life, but with a private group of investors, the University Nipissing University Lakers men's hockey team finally hit the ice in September 2009 and is expected to kick-off a lot of the first season. In January 2009, the Lakers Hockey Marketing Committee met to discuss how best to promote this new team. The Lakers will play in the largest recreational facility of the North Bay - Memorial Gardens, which had a total capacity of 4048. Their objectives were clear - a welcome university Lakers Hockey team will gain widespread support and maximize fan attendance. With about nine months before the games, the marketing team is focused on developing the most effective marketing plan to achieve those goals.
