Abstract:

The case study being considered is of HTC Organization, smartphones and PDA Manufacturers. The main task here is to assess the organization’s Supply Chain Management, its problem analysis, its impacts and recommend a policy suitable to cater to its need and its requirements which can solve the current problems HTC has. The Project starts with the introduction of the firm, which states that the organization is currently operating in a very dynamic environment with being at no. 4 in the global supply of the smartphone category. Further, the project elaborates on the current supply chain management structure which is being followed by the firm, of implementing a lot of labor and costs for vigorous selection of its suppliers from its updated list which is being done by the balanced score card approach.

Suggestion of the alternative is then provided which is based on the 3 criteria which are being Cost, Time and Quality. The suggestive strategies as per the criteria are Apple Inc. Strategy of Agile Supply Chain, outsourcing of the department and using a continuous flow supply chain strategy.

The recommended strategy after all the consideration for the organization is using Apple Inc.’s Strategy of using Agile Supply Chain which caters to all needs of the responsiveness to the market’s supply and demand and addressing the cost and quality effectiveness of the organization.

INTRODUCTION:

This case study provides detail about HTC, a leading organization in the world of smartphones and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) and also has been recognized as original design manufacturer for the leading organizations such as T-Mobile, Verizon, NTT DoCoMo, etc. According to the survey at the start of 2010, it was ranked 4th biggest among the world with a sales figure of 4.5 Billion Dollars.

Sitting in the smartphone industry, with huge forecasted growth averages according to the IDC, the overall mobile phone market was expected to grow 6.6% for 2014, but the smartphone category expected a growth of 20.4% at that time.

Considering the potential about the organization, one thing to remark that the manufacturing process of the smartphone in large quantities is a very technical and intensive job as there are approximately 250-300 separate components that are installed in the smartphone and for those components, HTC has a list of Suppliers and the figure of active suppliers can be put at over 1000 which the organization has to correctly manage. In addition to this, the organization also needs to counter the effects of the growing market with different operating systems and the overall strategy to counter.

In this Case Study evaluation, we will be looking at the current status of the management of these suppliers by the organization, problems which are created by the current process, list of alternatives and the recommended alternative for the organization, so that it can mitigate the risks it from the supply chain.......................
