During the privatization of the aviation sector in China, Chen Feng along with three other individuals set up Hainan Airlines. From a small loan from the local province in 1992, Chairman Chen developed the firm into a conglomerate that, by 2003, and it owned airlines, resorts, airports to accommodate planes, agencies which provided services regarding traveling, an insurance providing company, and stores in departments.

Regardless of being successful several times, including the first mover of the country, it still faced numerous issues both through business and corporate levels. The question arises if the company was increasing its width a distraction to a path or the airline business to competitive advantage? Going forward, what should be the precedence of Chen?
