General Scanning, Inc was founded by Jean and Pierre Montague Brosens, two MIT engineers interested in developing innovative products based on early application of lasers. They invented their own technology for laser beam positioning and scanning products. General scan was organized shop engineering and production work - that is, they are built to order customized products. As it has grown in size and revenue, the company hadto review their company's goals. Wes Davis was hired as president of the charter to change the company from a producer of components for OEM-producers to end user systems builder.
