In 2004, a principal Sri Lanka multinational with operations in varied sectors, Hayleys PLC, decided to unite all its separate environmental and societal initiatives into a single corporate responsibility effort.
The programme build on powerful corporate worth and in specific sectors was instantly successful, enabling the business to reinforce relationships with key stakeholders (unions and customers). Still, the issue of the long term economic viability of the effort remained.
