Flat World, Hard Boundaries: How To Lead Across Them Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

It's ironical that relational bounds -- barriers to human interactions that are productive -- stay mainly unchanged while technological innovations have revolutionized the workplace. The authors identified five types of such boundaries: Vertical bounds are ceilings and the floors that different groups according to rank and privilege. Stakeholder borders are the doors and windows of the organization. They shut out, or open it up to, parties for example local communities and vendors. When workers are defined, say, by sex, race, education or ideology, demographic borders result. Geographical boundaries are represented by the actual office location along with by the electronic connections used to bridge spaces and time zones.
