Actually defined, discrimination in the workplace can be described as discrimination which is based on gender, race, religion, physical, mental disability,ethnicity, etc.by the employees in their surroundings. Discrimination can be projected as a disparate treatment which involves a group that has created a disparate impact on anothergroup. A person can be discriminated by their co-workers or employees as well as their employers. Discrimination can havevarious reactions such as an employee leaving the job or workplace and also if the person is really affected and abused by discrimination, he may opt for physical harm such as suicide and other problems.

Discrimination is harmful since its effect on the economic outcomes negative productivity in workers directly or indirectly through feedback effects. It also affects the economy of the country,as the efficiency of workers is less which creates major impact on the economic performance. Further, it createsa negativeeffect on the organization's financial statements as it may reduce revenues,cause employee turnover and strikes if any agency is involved.

Standard approach used to identify employment discrimination is to isolate the groups of productive differences such as education, work experience, etc.

Discrimination is not only about the measurable outcomes but it also furtherconcern with the significances of unquantifiable substances such as employee morale and behaviour towards the organizational objectives.

TYPES OF DISCRIMINATIONsINVOLVED IN THE WORKPLACE

The three main types of discriminations which are involved in the workplace that have created major problems are given below:

·        Age Discrimination:

Age discrimination occurs when a worker or an employee treats an applicant less favourably based on his or her age. Mostly, age discrimination is seen with those older employees and workers, to reduce some of the employers’ attempt to force them into retirements or to refuse to hire those employees whose age is above a certain age.

The age discrimination Act of 1967 prohibits discrimination against those employees whose age is less than 40, but the act also states that the discrimination against the age factor is illegal; it's unlawful for employees to be harassed based on their age.

Many companies are forbidden from specifying age preferences in job advertisements, which provides the same benefits to older age employees.

·        Racial Discrimination:

Racial discrimination refers to the employee’sunfavourable treatment of another person because of their race, which is associated with many characteristics such as skin colour, hair texture, etc. The racial discrimination also involves poor treatment of people from other races...............
