Competitor Analysis of Tesla Motors, Inc. Case Solution

Motors Inc. is a US based company, which specializes in manufacturing efficient electric cars and electric power train components. Tesla motors has maintained its reputed position in the market and have been given tough competition to its competitors. Moreover, in 2008, Tesla manufactured Tesla Roadster which was considered as the first high-performance and efficient electric sport car.

Competitive Situation:

Tesla Motors is well positioned in the high end luxury niche market and has captured a significant market share. However, there is a little threat to Tesla Motors from hybrid and low displacement diesel vehicles as they are the substitute of the Tesla Motors. Tesla has maintained a high position in a market due to its high performance, technology, established brand, and unique competitive product lines. However, the industry in which Tesla Motors operates requires huge capital investment. In addition, there are strict laws and rules for the new entrants in the industry. Hence, the strategic positioned of Tesla Motors have a little threat.

Comparison with competitors:

Tesla Model S is considered to be the perfect electric car as compared to many others. Tesla Model S has several advantages over BMW i3. Tesla Model Sis significantly more spacious for the people who travel a lot and want ferry around passenger and cargo. In addition, Tesla Model S is also highly praised for its charging capabilities. Furthermore, the vehicle has considerably longer range than the BMW i3 which makes it more efficient as compared to the BMW vehicle. Moreover, Model S is highly sophisticated and easy to drive which has attracted the praise of consumers.(Czubakowski, 2008)

Even though BMW has received much appreciation due to the acceleration capabilities but still it is the second best vehicle to Tesla Model S. However, BMW i3 is considered as the greenest car available in the market. BMW i3 has an environment friendly quality which in enhanced by the fact that thisis the most efficient care on the market. Furthermore, the other advantage of BMW i3 is that it is more economical than Model 3due to which economical motorists prefer to take pleasure in BMWi3.(Czubakowski, 2008)

Toyota’s Mirahas been introduced in the market with an entirely new technology and its fuel cells are better than electricity- storing batteries. Toyota Mira’s biggest advantage is that it uses hydrogen as energy storage and is able to quickly refill the tank within 3 minutes whereas; Tesla Model S takes hours to fully charge a vehicle.However, Tesla’s vehicles’ exterior is far more advanced as compared Toyota Mira.(KARAMITSIOS, 2013)

Tesla Electric Model 3 was priced at the upper range of luxury brands, whereas, the Chevrolet Bolt isoverpriced and lack efficient engineering. Its innovative technology seems too ineffective as compared to Tesla vehicles. However, Bolt has a range of over 200 miles and is able to quickly charged whereas, Model 3 has a range of 200 miles as well. Moreover, Tesla’s super charging location gives vehicles about 80% within 45 minutes.(Czubakowski, 2008)
