Cleveland Clinic: Transformation and Growth 2015 Harvard Case Solution & Analysis

Cleveland Clinic: Transformation and Growth 2015 Case Study Analysis

Soon, clinics and hospitals will offer consultations in the retail business, on campuses and business parks, through virtual clinic kiosks. These fully equipped, private and secure kiosks provide an essential medical care and advice to busy patients, who would otherwise miss the opportunity to see a medical expert. Since those used in the Cleveland Clinic pilot program satisfaction score for patient was 93%, they also rate it as well.

Efforts to manage the healthier environment, maintain the overall brand value and client view of the organization and can help their communities. While green initiatives often involve upfront costs, and they pay off in the long term. Companies around the world have adopted wellness programs to keep their employees healthy, and many providers now offer similar programs as part of their plans. Also, more and more insurance companies are encouraging their members to stay in shape and be healthy. However, these programs are not just for patients. Healthcare providers should not forget to take care of themselves while taking care of others.

Barriers for implementing change

1.1  Internal barriers

In fact, the Cleveland Clinic was the only hospital to voluntarily report the outcome data, including the mortality statistics. However, the members of the medical community did not agree to disclose the patients’ information. The main argument was to bring quality improvements that forced physicians to measure the outcome and outcome of the procedure.

The difficulty of implementing process improvements is quite different, with several main causes and problems involved. There are some variations in the goals, but the process between the manufacturer and the clinic is completely different. Goals, services and objectives are completely different from each other.

Industry barriers

Both quantity and quality are easily measured in the manufacturing industry. In surgery, there are quite different difficulties in coronary bypass surgery, because there are numerous differences in the conditions and consequences of the patient's medical condition. As with previous surgeries; there were many patients with a variety of diseases states, from diabetes to scarring suggestive of complex treatment.

This hospital is known in several countries around  the world, for the services it provides to its patients. It does exceptionally well in offering innovation which promotes the improvement of the human life’s quality. Therefore, rather than diverting its interests or separating many things at once; the organization should focus primarily on its main purpose with prioritization. Management is quite good, but the main focus is on improving the service quality. Additional innovations and some unnecessary actions could cause further damage to a valuable patient care organization resource that is creative enough not only to affect the hospital's economy but also to lead it towards progressin the provision of best possible patient care.

Conclusion and recommendation

According to the business and management analysis of the case study, after considering all the factors related to theindustryissues and internal managerial issues impacting the Cleveland clinic; I would recommend that organization shouldn’t give preference to one over other.

2.1  Justification of the opinion:

Lean approach and six sigma approach both have different objectives, which are necessary to be considered, which are that six sigma focuses on eliminating the defects, and for any health care organization life, threat is a defect and in case of lean approach its objective would be to minimize wastage from all the departments so that the organization gains a competitive advantage, healthy environment would be possible, employees wouldn’t suffer, the management wouldn’t have any destructive conflicts, patients get satisfaction and technology could be updated.

By focusing on as well as optimizing the geographic coverage; Cleveland clinic should focus on providingan adequate coverage to serve the service areas, without unnecessary saturationor over-diffusion of clinical, human or technological resources among the outpatients or inpatients.................................
