MOFTEC, in 1998 May, launched its online market gateway, www.chinamarket.com. One month after, the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) announced a strategic venture with IBM to develop the central ecommerce platform for the nation. With the central government marketing e commerce as a means around national infrastructural bottlenecks including transport and supply, both initiatives were rushing to become the portal by which international ecommerce was "funneled" into China.
